Discord, a popular VoIP-based communication platform, was originally developed to give gamers a place to build communities and interact. But due to its wide range of functionalities, users wield Discord as a semipublic, forum-style community platform. Each community on Discord is called a "Server” and each server usually has multiple channels, each of which is dedicated to a different topic. In a recent span of time, it has begun to catch on with mainstream audiences, too; fueled in part by the COVID-19 pandemic today Discord has more than 140 million-plus monthly active users.
